Potato Festival

Preston celebrated their 25th Annual Potato Festival at the Bear Lake County Fairgrounds this past week. The Potato Festival Committee came under scrutity by some for choosing to proceed with plans in spite of the global pandemic. Spokeswoman, Kathy Lancaster, from the planning committee defended their decision stating, "We are taking every precaution to practice social distancing as public health and safety is our priority." The committee explained that their decision garnered much support of the community for multiple reasons. First, the number of cases of Covid 19 are well below average per capita compared to the national averages. Second, this is the festival's 25th anniversary. Hugh Gatley, a resident of Preston expressed his support by saying, "This is a big year for this festival. It's our Silver jubilee! My father farmed these lands, as did my father's father. This festival means a lot to our county." It seems as though the majority of residents supported the decision to have the festival. The Planning Committee reported more attendees than last year in spite of the pandemic. Lancaster confirmed that the committee is already looking forward to next year.
